Day 5 - San Mateo Mountains (Little Pigeon Canyon to Bear Trap Springs Campground Via Mt. Washington)

Thanks to our monstrous day 4 we set ourselves up for a relative pleasure cruise on day 5. Early in the day we saw an abandoned forest service outpost which we thankfully had time to stop and explore. We had to doa little climbing early but we got a huge payoff with a ripping descent down big pigeon canyon, then turned on the climbing legs to get up through bear trap canyon deep into the tall pinewood forest. Our best stop was a visit to "eagle spring" to refill water, and then a short 1 mile later we dumped gear off at bear trap springs campground and set up camp. It was only early afternoon so we took our unloaded bikes up to the top of Mt. Withington, which at 10,119 feet was the literal high point of the trip. the climb was hard but the sweet descent down chunky gravel from the peak back to the campsite was awesome. The final 4 big switchbacks we knew we had to come back up the next day on loaded bikes, but before that we got to enjoy the best campsite of the trip. For the first and only time of the trip we made a real fire. It was awesome.

Day 5 low point: none, the stoke was high!

Day 5 high point: 10119''!!!!
